Volunteer Opportunities for Adults

  • If you are age eighteen or older, you can become a member of our Scoutmaster Staff if you have the time and dedication to do so. Members of the Scoutmaster Staff attend most Troop meetings (weekly on Wednesday evenings 7:30-9p), most of our weekend outdoor activities (monthly camping trips), and attend Longterm/Summer camp if able.

Scoutmasters receive training and spend a lot of time advising our girl members.

  • The Troop Committee is a group of adults who meet once monthly in person or by Zoom. The Troop Committee has several officers, including a Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Event Chair, and other positions allowing a volunteer to concentrate on a particular support activity. We will provide you with the training you need to do your job.

  • We will arrange for you to be trained, which is often done on-line through Scouting’s national training web site. If you do have Scouting experience, we are especially interested in your becoming part of our Scoutmaster Staff or Troop Committee. Please share your experience with us on our volunteer sign-up form.

    BSA Adult Application (2022)

  • People who are interested in becoming registered adult volunteers in Scouts BSA Troop 355 must first complete online Youth Protection Training. Members of our current Troop Committee and Scoutmaster Staff report that viewing the program, which includes experts discussing this important subject matter, was quite worthwhile. It provides the viewer with a good understanding of BSA procedures to prevent instances of inappropriate behavior toward children. It also discusses the behavioral traits of abusers and the abused – and what to do when these are noticed.

To take the course, access the BSA national training website at my.scouting.org and establish an account. Make note of the account information, because you will use it for other training and information purposes as you become more involved with the Troop.

    1. Go to https://my.scouting.org

    2. Click on “Create Account.”

    3. Walk through the application process to establish an account on the website.

    4. After you have established your account application, you will be directed to the my.scouting.org Dashboard Page.

    5. Click on the Youth Protection shield on the right of the page and take the training.

    6. When you are done, print out the completion certificate, keep one and give a copy to the Troop Committee Chairman or Scoutmaster. This will qualify you to become a registered adult leader in Scouts BSA. After you have registered as an adult leader, the national BSA training site can provide online training for specific Troop positions you might accept.

  • People who are interested in becoming registered adult volunteers in Scouts BSA Troop 355 must also complete the Archdiocese Safety training program every 5 years. This can be completed online.

    1. Go to https://www.virtusonline.org.

    2. Click on First-Time Registrant (or sign-in if you have an existing account)

    3. Follow the prompts and Select Baltimore Archdiocese, St. Clare Catholic Parish

    4. Contact Vicki DeRuggiero at 410-371-8936 if you need assistance.
